Urban Go-Team 2009
Tuesday, June 9: Like most days in Go-Team, Tuesday was very busy. We started out with a small exercise in which students read their clothing labels and discovered which countries manufactured them. Out of a room full of more than 20 people, only 6 articles of clothing were made in America. Which lead us to a great discussion on labor and our first field trip for the day: a walking tour of Downtown St. Louis to look at the old garment district. We walked with the very knowledgeable Joan Suarez and she gave us a full history of the area.
In the afternoon we got to take a tour of the Danforth Plant Science Center. This was a great way to showcase the old job opportunities and the new ones popping up in St. Louis. The Danforth Center was an amazing high tech facility and the tour guides were refreshingly enthusiastic about what they did for a living.
